What is cmi5?

cmi5 is an eLearning standard that combines the LMS integration of SCORM with the flexible data reporting of xAPI. Technically, it's a defined "profile" of xAPI — a specific set of rules for how xAPI statements should be structured, aimed at content that's launched and assigned from an LMS.

In practice, that means content is still launched, assigned, and tracked from your LMS the way SCORM content is — but instead of SCORM's limited tracking model, cmi5 reports rich, granular xAPI statements back to a Learning Record Store (LRS), which is often built into or paired with the LMS itself.
